Steve's Platform

1) BRIGHT FUTURES - In the coming year, the largest concern facing in-state resident students may be the availability of their Bright Future funds. With tuition rising, it will become more difficult for the state to cover the costs of students’ educations. I will work to maintain these benefits. Moreover, should Bright Futures change; I will work to keep the students informed of how to maintain their education assistance through Bright Futures and diversified means.

2) RISING TUITION / FEES- Like conservatives at higher level of government, I will work with every committee available and initiate aggressive programs that attempt to alleviate the financial burden of students. Recognizing that rising tuition is inevitable at USF, I will do my best to curb wasteful spending so as to deliver the monetary savings to the tuition-paying student.

3) ATHLETICS - Bulls Athletics are essential dynamics in the identity of the University of South Florida. I would like to encourage the creation of programs that work within the limitations of NCAA regulations to promote student / athlete interaction. One such program would allow students to meet prospects during their official recruitment visits. This would give the student a sense of personal commitment to the Athletics Department and the athlete would feel welcomed to the university environment.

4) ATHLETICS - Should student desire for Bulls sporting event tickets begin to exceed seating available and a regulated ticket distribution system becomes needed, I will lobby for one that rewards the student that has regularly attended past sporting events. Priority for tickets should not reward mere class standing, but past participation. Via this method, those that attend men and women’s basketball games, for example, will be rewarded by gaining better opportunity to receive coveted football tickets.

5) SECURITY - Through committee work, I will attempt to find better options for campus security than the current Allied-Barton security guards who have operated to nobody’s satisfaction. This is an example of money ill-spent.

6) BULL RUNNER - I will explore the initiation of a program that regulates Bull Runner route integrity. This is to suggest that students should have some idea when a Bull Runner will arrive at each stop. If this is not possible, I will explore the possibility (and costliness) of a program that allows student to call a central hub and find the location of a Bull Runner on any given route. 30-minute waits are unacceptable!

7) PARKING - I will work with other senators on their already-initiated programs to alleviate parking problems. My focus will be on Greek Village parking where it has been proven that there are more passes sold than spaces available.
