Athletics- If elected to become a Senator for the college of Arts and Sciences, I plan to completely reform how USF looks at Athletics. I understand that Academics is the number one reason that we are all here, but I think it is Athletics that transforms a school into a University. USF is a relatively young school, but has so much potential to become one of the greatest Universities in the country. USF is a part of the Big East Conference, which is a very important start. Now it is up to us, the students, to start traditions, and make USF a prestigious school to come to. The reason why Athletics are so big at other Universities in Florida, and throughout the country is the traditions, and the student involvement in sports. It is amazing to see how the students can transform a sporting event into an amazing event. I plan to get students to games through special promotions, marketing, and advertising. If we can get students to athletic events, then they will see the excitement of the events. Once USF has a steady flow of students to games, we can start to develop traditions, which make college sports so unique and exciting. Some examples of traditions I plan on implementing include, all green student sections, specific chants, and sporting pep rallies. Another issue I plan to address is student seating at events. I plan to get students premiere seating at athletic events, which will improve the student section environment. The way I plan to accomplish all these things is by setting up a Student-Athletic Committee. A Student-Athletic Committee will make it easier for the student body to express what it wants from Athletics.

2. Community Outreach- Community Outreach and Support is one of the most important aspects of College Life. In order for USF to become a major University, we need to get the city of Tampa to embrace USF as their school. We need to get kids from the Tampa area to WANT to come to USF, not just settle for USF. We need to get the City of Tampa to take pride in living in Bull's Country. We can do this by continuing the "Bull's Country" program by expanding it to the whole region, instead of just along the perimeter of USF. We need to hold more community based events on campus, and get non-USF students from the Tampa area to come to Athletic, and non-athletic events. We need to transform Tampa into Bull's Country!!!

3. Cut Class Sizes- We can do this by optimizing the use of scheduling. If we schedule classes and a more wide-variety of times, then there will be more class options with smaller class sizes. This does not mean Friday classes. USF can open up more classes throughout the day Monday through Thursday, taking advantage of classes that are open during different times.

4. USF Spirit- Trade in other Universities' apparel for USF apparel for free. This will promote pride in USF. More promotions can be developed for students to come to campus for more than classes. I will help create a USF Student Marketing team, which will be used to excite USF Students, and inform them of upcoming events.

5. Student Housing/ Transportation- I will fight for all Freshman to live on Campus, and I promise to get more student housing, on and around campus. This will help to make USF less of a Commuter School. Also, I plan to increase the Amount of Bull Runner routes. want to have Bull Runners run on a timed schedule, so students will know where and when to catch the Bull Runner. I plan on creating an information online in which students can call and find out where the Bull Runner is. I also believe we need more parking on campus. If students cannot park on campus they cannot get to class. We need to fix this problem.
WhiskeyBoarderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12484072959354046151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7511493812570146181.post-17040939893095499622008-02-06T07:30:00.001-05:002008-02-06T18:10:06.955-05:00

Personal Statement

“I have always been extremely interested in politics. When I find myself supporting a favorite candidate, I often become overcome by the same feelings that I do when following a favorite sports team. So, in some way, my desire to join student government is a selfish one: it is something that I simply want to do for personal satisfaction.

However, there is much more to it. The University of South Florida is about to enter an era that is going to be both extremely challenging and tremendously thrilling.

The challenge will come from upcoming budget crunches that will cause the students to make tough decisions about what they truly desire out of their university.
